The POWER held their sixth annual Youth Camp this summer, offering youngsters a chance to learn directly from POWER players and coaches.
Over three days, members of the POWER, who were once aspiring Little Leaguers themselves, had the opportunity to instruct more than 50 kids on the fundamentals and dole out some wisdom about America’s pastime.
Campers had the opportunity to work on conditioning, stretching, catching, throwing, pitching, fielding, hitting, sliding, running, team play, strength training and sportsmanship.
The learning went both ways though.
“It was nice to see the young talent of Palm Springs come showcase their skills,” said POWER Assistant Coach Jon Tatum. “It was a good change of pace for us as a coaching staff to work with younger kids because it teaches us to be patient.”
The annual Youth Camp is one of Manager Harry Gurley’s favorite parts of the summer.
“We had a great camp. We had a good turnout. The kids worked hard and the players thoroughly enjoyed working with the kids, having fun with them. We were able to teach them a lot of baseball, have the players pass some of their skills down to the youngsters. We think it’s a worthwhile event and we really enjoy it.”
All campers received a t-shirt and a certificate of completion, and awards were given out for hustle, hitting, and most valuable player.
