PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The 2013 Southern California Collegiate Baseball League Championship Series is set.
The Palm Springs POWER (17-3 SCCBL) regular-season league champions and the number-one overall seed, will take on the Long Beach Legends (12-8 SCCBL) in a rematch of the 2012 Championship Series. The best-of-three matchup kicks off Tuesday, July 23 in Long Beach, Calif.
The POWER swept the Legends last season for the title, winning by scores of 8-0 and 4-3. The reigning champions will be looking for their third straight league crown and fifth overall, while the Legends will look to capture their first.
POWER Manager Harry Gurley, who will be going for his fourth career SCCBL Championship, forecasts a tight matchup.
“We’re looking forward to the playoffs. Long Beach has had a good year. The Legends have played in a lot of ball games, and have won a lot of ball games. They have some good pitchers and we have had some close games with them. I think it will be a close series and the games will be very well played.”
Game one will be hosted by the Legends at Long Beach City College at 4:30pm on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the series will move to Palm Springs Stadium with first pitch of game two scheduled for 7:05pm. If necessary, game three will take place Thursday at 7:05pm, also at Palm Springs Stadium.
The winner of the series will advanced to the So Cal World Series to take on the league champion from the Orange County Collegiate League. That best-of-three series will kick off July 31.
