PALM SPRINGS, CA — Palm Springs Power outfielder Hank Yates and pitcher Matt Anderson were honored on Friday for their performances over the last week of Southern California Collegiate Baseball League play.
Yates was named SCCBL Hitter of the week after going 12-22 (.545) at the plate with a homerun, three doubles, eight RBIs, eight runs and one stolen base.
His week included a perfect 4-for-4 day at the dish against the LA Thrashers in game one of their doubleheader last Thursday and three games with at least two RBIs. He is the second POWER player to receive this award.
Anderson receives this distinction after hurling the franchises’ first no-hitter against the Casa Grande Cotton Kings on Tuesday.
“After the last out I honestly didn’t even know what to do and I just kind of stood there. It’s unreal, it hasn’t even sunk in yet,” Anderson said after the game. “My fast ball and breaking ball were on command [and] the guys did a really good job of protecting me.”
The Claremont, Calif. native went 1-0 for the week throwing 11 scoreless innings in three appearances (1 GS) while striking out 17 batters and is the second POWER starter to take home this weekly honor.
