PALM SPRINGS, CA – POWER second baseman Todd Dunham hit a two-run single in the bottom of the second to give Palm Springs (11-1, 5,1 SCCBL) the lead and they never looked back, defeating the High Desert Heat (0-5, 0-5 SCCBL) 7-3 on Saturday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
Hank Yates chipped in with two RBI singles and Tyler Surnbrock was 2-for-3, scoring two runs in the win.
Bill Olson (1-0) got the win in his first start of the season pitching five innings while giving up just one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Edgar Gomez pitched a perfect ninth to finish the game, striking out two hitters and keeping his ERA a perfect 0.00 in 13 innings pitched.
The two teams will do battle again Sunday in game three of the weekend series.First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
