PALM SPRINGS, CA – Todd Dunham had a big night at the plate while relief pitchers Jake McCoy and Bill Olson preserved a 5-4 win for the POWER (17-5, 10-4 SCCBL) over the High Desert Heat (1-8, 1-8 SCCBL) on Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
Dunham was 3-for-3 in the win with three singles, three runs scored, four stolen bases and the go-ahead RBI in the bottom of the seventh. Brooks Klein also had two hits while Anthony Torres added two singles and an RBI.
McCoy pitched three scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first win of the season. His highlight was in the seventh when he struck out four batters after his first victim reached on a dropped third strike.
Olson shut the door in the ninth, pitching a 1-2-3 inning for his first save of the season.
The POWER head to Los Angeles for a daytime doubleheader with the LA Thrashers on Thursday afternoon. The first game is scheduled to start at 1:30 with the second game getting underway thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one.
