It took a late rally once again, but the Palm Springs POWER completed a sweep of the Casa Grande Cotton Kings by a final score of 8-4. The win improves the POWER to 3-0 after a very successful opening weekend.
The POWER and Cotton Kings seemed to be going punch-for-punch in what was a 4-4 ballgame before a 2-RBI single by catcher Chris Wilson in the bottom of the 7th broke the tie on Pride Night at Palm Springs Stadium. The frozen rope off of Wilson’s bat would prove to be the game-winner. The POWER continued the 7th inning rally with two more RBI singles coming from Keenyn Walker and Zack Haley.
The POWER once again received a shutdown pitching performance out of the bullpen as the Cotton Kings failed to score after the 5th inning. POWER pitchers Craig Rasmussen and Corey Black combined for six innings of 5-hit work from the bullpen, only allowing one Casa Grande run in the process. Black picked up the win as a result of the POWER taking the lead after his first inning of work in the 7th.
Both Rasmussen and Black are teammates at San Diego State alongside Wilson, the POWER offensive star of the night. The three products out of Tony Gwynn’s Aztec squad provided the game-winning hit and the pitching victory for the POWER on Sunday night.
The POWER take on the Trombly Thunder on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM at Palm Springs Stadium. Gates open up at 6:00 PM and it is the first “$1.00 Beer Tuesday” promotional night of the season.
