6/12/10 – The Palm Springs POWER pitching staff combined for 18 strikeouts en route to a 7-1 victory over the East L.A. Dodgers at Palm Springs Stadium Saturday night. The POWER jumped out to an early lead with back-to-back two run innings in the first and second, and the hits just kept on coming. The opposite can be said about the visiting Dodgers, who compiled just three hits total for the night.
The POWER got off to a good start thanks to an impressive outing by starting pitcher Corey Black, who hit 94 MPH on the radar gun and allowed no runs on just two hits in his four innings of work. Dustin Ispas came in to relieve Black in the fifth, and struck out seven, allowing no hits through three innings. POWER relievers Gabe Aguilar and Kesley Kondo followed in that order, each with a scoreless inning of their own.
While the POWER pitchers were taking care of business on the defensive side of things, the POWER bats were charged up thanks to left fielder Marcus Romero. Romero drove in four of the seven POWER runs and started the scoring off for the POWER in the first with a sacrifice fly that plated Brett Christopher. Romero kept it up with an RBI single in the second and capped off his stellar performance with a 2-RBI double in the sixth. POWER third baseman Brett Hambright had a pair of RBI singles while catcher Chris Wilson added one of his own.
The POWER look to improve their record to 8-0 and will be going for their third consecutive series sweep of the season when they return to action Sunday night against the East L.A. Dodgers. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Palm Springs Stadium and the gates open up at 6:00 PM. The POWER will be hosting Sunline Transit Night and Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark.
