“POWER Drop Final Game But Finish Season Proud” 7/27/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The Palm Springs POWER finished off their season in front of a roudy crowd of 600 fans tonight as they capped off the end of their 2nd season. Despite losing the game 10-5 to the Navy, the fans definately appreciated the efforts of their hometown team this year as they cheered them on to the final out. The POWER player of the game was Troy Hanzawa as he went a perfect 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 rbi. The final POWER record moves to 25-17 after tonight’s game. The Palm Springs POWER would like to thank all the fans for comming out to the final game of this amazing season and look forward to seeing you next year.

“POWER Put Runs Up Early; Win 10-0″ 7/26/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The Palm Springs POWER had no shortage of run tonight as they beat the Inland Empire Terror in a 10-0 mercy rule shutout stopped in the 7th inning. The POWER were lead by a 17 hit output by the offense that featured a 5 run first inning. Third basemen Kurt Murtins lead the POWER tonight going 3-4 2rbi with a single, double, and a triple. POWER center fielder Matt Foote also chipped in with 3 hits and 2rbi’s himself. POWER starting pitcher Travis Erickson got the win in the 7 inning game as he threw 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball. With the victory the POWER record goes to 25-16. The POWER play the Navy in the season finale Wednesday night at 7pm.

“POWER Fall Behind Early; Lose 16-5″ 7/23/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER Defense and pitching were missing for the POWER tonight as they allowed 7 runs (5 earned) in the 1st inning of tonights game. Costly errors in the field cost the POWER dearly as baserunners roamed free all night. Waves slugger Kyle Thomas lead their offense attack with two 3 run home runs, finishing the night with 7 rbi’s alone. The POWER looked to get back on track on Tuesday vs the Langley Blaze for the last two games of the season. The game starts at 7pm on Tuesday night. With the loss the POWER record moves to 24-16.

“POWER Win Walkathon 11-1″ 7/22/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The key to tonight’s POWER production was not their hitting but rather the Marine pitching lack of an ability to throw strikes. The POWER hitters were walked 14 times tonight on their way to an 11-1 victory. POWER pitcher Stephen Crang picked up the victory tonight as he threw 5.1 innings of 1 run ball. With the victory the POWER record improved to 24-15. The next POWER game is Saturday night at 7:05 vs the Northern County Waves. Saturday night will feature the world famous Carl’s Jr POWER hamburger eating contest. All fans are invited to participate.

“POWER Lose On The Road 4-2″ 7/19/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The POWER feel shorts on the road Tuesday night when they lost 4-2 vs the Orange County Fire. Down 3-0 in the top of the 8th the POWER were able to put up 2 runs to cut the lead down to one but were unable to get any closer as the Fire added another run in the bottom of the inning. With the loss the POWER record goes to 23-15.

“POWER Lose Close Game 4-3″ 7/15/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The Palm Springs POWER suffered another tough loss on Saturday night 4-3 vs. the Las Vegas Devils. The loss eliminated the POWER from the PSWL tournament and NBC playoffs eligibility. Despite mounting a rally late in bottom of the 9th the POWER were unable to complete the rally. With the loss the POWER record went to 23-14. The next game is on Wednesday vs the I.E. Rockets at 7:05pm.

“POWER Suffer Tough Loss; Lose 5-4″ 7/15/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER In the semifinals of the PSWL tournament the POWER suffered a tough loss to take their first loss in a double elimination tournament. The POWER started off the game strong with a leadoff homerun by Matt Lawson for the 1-0 lead. With the POWER winning 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th, the Havasu Heat put up three runs on the board to take the 5-4 lead. Despite making some minor noise in the 8th and the 9th the POWER were unable to make a rally as they lost the game 5-4. With the loss the POWER face a must win situation with a game vs. the Las Vegas Devils at 4pm Saturday afternoon. With a victory in the game the POWER would face the Havasu Heat again at 7:30pm for the championship.

“POWER Stay Hot; Win First Game of Tournament” 7/14/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The Palm Springs POWER came out blazing as they defeated the Phoenix Blazers 8-3 in their first game of the PSWL tournament. The POWER offense got a jump start in the bottom of the 2nd inning when center fielder Matt Foote hit a 2 run home run to put the POWER up 2-0. After the Blazers battled back to tie the POWER at 3-3 in the top of the 7th, the POWER offense quickly responded by put up five runs of their own. The POWER 5 run 7th was lead by a rbi single to center by Brian Steinmeyer followed by a 2 run single by Troy Hanzawa to put the POWER up for good by a score of 8-3. After a solid 7 innings of work by James Simmons, POWER pitcher Fred Caron came in and threw 2 innings of shutout ball for the win. The POWER play their 2nd round game Friday night at 7:30 vs. the Havasu Heat. “POWER Preserve Weekend Sweep of Famous” 7/10/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER In game one of the doubleheader the POWER pulled off another one of their famous comebacks as they rallied a 4-3 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning, putting 4 runs on the board. The POWER rally was lead by a 2 run double by POWER first baseman Kyle Walton and a rbi single by right fielder Tommy Sadler. After acquiring the lead POWER reliever Dain Fergeson came in and picked up the win in his 1.2 innings of work. POWER reliever Eric Reyes picked up the save in the 7-4 victory. In game two the POWER continued their dominance of the Las Vegas Famous as they starting scoring runs early as they put up 2 runs in the 2nd inning. The POWER offense was lead by a familiar face as Desert Sun player of the game Matt Weston lead the team as he went 3-5 with an RBI. After seeing POWER starter Guy McDowell leave the game after the 1st inning with a minor injury, Michael Joannides came in and threw 3 innings of 1 run ball on his way to picking up the victory. The POWER stayed in control all game as they picked up the 9-5 win. With the victory the POWER winning streak goes to 5 in a row with a clean sweep of the Las Vegas Famous.

“POWER Shutout Famous In Doubleheader Sweep” 7/09/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The first game of the doubleheader was all POWER from the start as they scored 11 runs in the first inning. The POWER offense put up 18 runs on 17 hits in total for the game. The game was stopped after 7 innings due to the 10 run mercy rule giving the POWER a 18-0 victory. The POWER offense was lead by a complete cast of characters as five hitter turned in at least two hits and two rbi’s. POWER starter Teddy Oglivie got the win as he turned in a solid outing as he threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Game 2 of the double header featured another shutout performance by the POWER as they pulled off a 3-0 victory. The story of the night was the performance by POWER starter James Simmons as he carried a no hitter into the 7 inning before giving up a ground ball to left field. The hit in the 7th was the only hit surrendered on the night by the POWER as Simmons, Reyes, and Beal combined for 9 innings of shutout ball. Simmons was the Desert Sun player of the game as he threw 7 innings of shutout ball giving up only 1 hit while striking out 12. Closer Andy Beal then came in for the ninth inning to pick up his 7th save of the season. With the two victories the POWER record improves to 20-12 on the season. “POWER Offense Explodes In 9-1 Win” 7/08/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The POWER offense came alive Friday night as they put up 9 runs of offense on their way to a 9-1 victory over the Las Vegas Famous. The POWER starting scoring runs early as they put up two runs in the 1st inning on a 2 run single by Matt Weston. The POWER offense continue to roll as they put up another 5 runs in the 5th inning lead by another rbi single by Weston and a 2 run single by Troy Hanzawa. POWER starting Fred Caron controlled the game from start as he turned in a solid 6 innings of work giving up only one run. The bullpen trio of Furguson, Letko, and Erickson then came in to preserve the win. Matt Weston and Fred Caron earned co-Desert Sun player of the game honors in the victory. Weston went 3-4 with 3 rbi’s as Caron threw 6 innings allowing only one run while striking out eight. Don’t forget that tomorrow there is a double header as the ballpark starting at 4:05 with the Las Vegas Famous. “POWER Lose Battle to Navy” 7/06/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The POWER offense had trouble figuring out the Navy pitching all night as they were only able to put up 1 run on 6 hits. The lone POWER run came in the bottom of the 4th when slugger Matt Weston hit a solo blast to right, his 4th of the year. Weston was also the POWER player of the game as he went 2-4 with the home run. The POWER were unable to get anything going after that as they were unable to string together a formidable rally. Despite a strong pitching performance giving up only 2 runs, POWER pitching Michael Joannides took the loss as his record dropped to (1-1). With the loss the POWER record goes to 17-12 on the season. The POWER will play again Friday night vs. the Las Vegas Famous at 7:05 pm. “POWER Split Double Header” 7/02/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER In game one the POWER combined some solid pitching with some timely hitting on their way to a 2-0 victory over the Las Vegas Devils. The POWER saw a solid starting pitching performance from Raymond Felton as he pitched 6.2 innings of shutout ball to go along with nine strikeouts. New POWER player Frank Linegro provided the offense with a solo blast to dead center putting the POWER up 1-0. Raymond Ravago added another rbi in the third inning putting the POWER up for good by a school of 2-0. Andy Beal added another save to his record as he set down the side in the 9th. In game two the POWER saw themselves go down early as the Devils built a 5-0 lead through 4 innings. The POWER offense was just not able to recover as they were only able to put one run up on the board on eight hits. The Desert Sun POWER player of the game was Matt Lawson as he went 2-3 with a stolen base. With the split Saturday night the POWER record goes to 17-11. The POWER play again Wednesday night at 7:05 vs. the US Navy at Palm Springs Stadium. “POWER Lose Two Close Games; Drop Double Header” 7/01/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER The Palm Springs POWER lost two tough games at home Friday night vs. the Las Vegas Devils. The Devils put up four runs early in the first game to go up 4-0 after two innings. After seeing themselves down 7-1 going into the bottom of the 6th the POWER were able to cut down the lead to 7-5 but were unable to complete the rally as they lost 7-5. The POWER player of the game was Matt Lawson as he went 3-5 with two stolen bases. In Game two the POWER found themselves in a pitching duel until the top of the 8th when the Devils put up 3 runs on the board giving them a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 9th the POWER saw some of their late inning rally magic come alive as they cut the deficit down to 3-2. But with Troy Hanzawa on 2nd base the POWER were unable to bring him home and complete the rally as Matt Foote struck out to end the game. With the two loses the POWER record goes to 16-10. The POWER play a double header again Saturday starting at 4pm vs the Las Vegas Devils.

“POWER Hitting And Pitching Dominate; Win 6-0” 6/29/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER After two tough losses on the road, the POWER were happy to be back home Wednesday night as they took the 6-0 shutout victory over the Southern California Fire. The POWER were lead by a dominating performance by starting pitcher and co-Desert Sun player of the game Michael Joannides. Joannides was almost perfect tonight as he threw seven innings of shutout ball giving up just three hits while striking out seven. The POWER offense was lead by Kyle Walton, who also received player of the game. Walton went 4-5 in the game with 3RBI on a 2 run HR and a RBI single. The POWER were in control the whole game holding the leading from the first inning. With the win the POWER record improves to 16-8. The next POWER game takes place Friday vs. the Las Vegas Devils at Palm Springs Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05. “POWER Drop Two On The Road” The Power dropped a pair of games to the Santa Barbara Foresters, 8-7 in 15 innings and 5-2 in a game shortened to six innings. The first game was a completion of Monday’s game that was called due to darkness. Next Game: The Power (15-8) will take on the Southern California First today at Palm Springs Stadium. Former Los Angeles pitcher Roger McDowell will throw out the first pitch.

“POWER Power Up In Late Inning Rally; Win 7-3 6/26/05 By Chris Ercoli Palm Springs POWER Down 2-0 going into the bottom of the 8th, the POWER pulled off another one of their signature late inning comebacks as they put up seven runs on their way to a 7-3 victory over the Military All Stars. The usual players we involved in the rally again tonight as back to back rbi singles by POWER sluggers Matt Weston and Jacob Vasquez tied the score at 2-2. With the bases loaded, POWER 3rd basemen Tommy Foschi and catcher Damon Spurgeon were hit by consecutive pitches giving the POWER the 4-2 go ahead lead. POWER center fielder Matt Lawson followed up the hit batsmen with a 3-run double putting the POWER up for good 7-2. POWER reliever Michael Joannides then finished off an excellent night of work as he secured the 7-3 win. Desert Sun player of the game was Damon Spurgeon as he went 2-3 on the night with an RBI and a HBP. POWER reliever Michael Joannides (1-0) picked up the win. With the win the POWER record improves to 15-6 on the season. The POWER will be going on the road Tuesday and Wednesday to play the Santa Barbara Foresters a team that finished in the top five at the NBC World Series in 2003 & 2004. We will return to Palm Springs Stadium on Wednesday night at 7pm vs. the Southern California Fire in Palm Springs Stadium. The POWER added an additional run in the 9th as they rallied to win the second game of a doubleheader 6-2 against the Lake Havasu Heat. Jacob Vasquez also chipped in with 2RBI and a run as he went 2-4. Unfortunately the POWER took the loss 6-2 in game one of the double header. Matt Weston was player of the game for the POWER. He had three hits in the first game, a 5-2 loss. FRIDAY’S GAMES: The Power split a pair of games on the road against the Lake Havasu Heat. In the first game of the doubleheader, a 12-6 loss, Fred Caron (3-1) was the losing pitcher. Kyle Walton was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. The Power won the second game 5-4. ‘POWER Get Clutch Hits Again; Win 7-5″ 6/19/05 By Chris Ercoli With their 9 game winning streak on the line, the POWER were down 5-4 in the bottom of the 8th but they were able to pull out more of their rally magic. Despite a mid game half hour delay due to umpire difficulties the POWER were able to pull out the win. With the bases loaded POWER slugger and Desert Sun player of the game Kyle Walton smacked a two run single to regain the lead 6-5. Another POWER run came in on an error by Blazer 1st baseman Dusty Hennis, putting the POWER up 7-5. The win improved the POWER record to 12-2 and extended the winning streak to 10 games. “Vasquez Goes Long As Beal Rings the Gong; POWER Win 5-2″ 06/18/05 By Chris Ercoli The Palm Springs POWER train continues to blaze by the competition as the POWER extended their winning streak to nine games. Despite some wild base running early on, the POWER were able to pull out the victory driven by a combination of strong pitching and hitting. The POWER offense was lead by some of its usual performers tonight at Desert Sun player of the game Jacob Vasquez powered the offense with 2 RBI hits featuring a solo blast to right. POWER first basemen Kyle Walton helped out with an RBI double of his own on the way to a 5-2 victory. The POWER suffered a mild scare in the top of the 9th with two runners on and no outs, but POWER closer Andy Beal struck out the side to preserve the win. With the win the POWER improved their record to 11-2. The POWER will play a double header on Sunday. The first game begins at 4:05 vs. the Phoenix Blazers at Palm Springs Stadium. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one. Sunday is also family day at the ballpark where any child gets in free with a paid adult. “POWER Extinguish Blazers; Win 6-2″ 06/17/05 By Chris Ercoli The Palm Springs POWER remained hot Friday night as they extended their winning streak to eight games. Going into the bottom of the 7th with the score tied 2-2, POWER cleanup hitter Kyle Walton smacked a 2 run single to center, putting the POWER up 4-2. The POWER put 2 more runs on the board in the bottom of the 8th inning to put the POWER up for good 6-2. The two insurance runs were scored on RBI singles by Matt Foote and Aaron Jimenez. POWER closer Andy Beal retired the side quietly in the top of the 9th to secure the win. With the win the POWER improved their record to 10-2. “POWER Rally Again; Win 6-5″ 06/15/05 By Chris Ercoli With the POWER’s six game winning streak on the line the POWER came back with their 2nd late inning rally in three games. Down 5-3 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs the POWER managed to pull off another miracle. After a walk to catcher Brian Capon, Desert Sun player of the game Matt Lawson hit an RBI single cutting the Longhorn lead to one. The next batter, POWER shortstop Raymond Rivago, scored the tying run on a double down the left field line, scoring Lawson. After a leadoff double by POWER slugger Kyle Walton, local hero Rego Nieto drove in the game winning run on a single up the middle, winning the game for the POWER by a score of 6-5. “POWER Remain On Cruise Control; Win 6th Straight” 6/14/05 By Chris Ercoli The POWER offense continued to explode Tuesday night as they put up 15 runs on the board. Fresh off hitting for the cycle Sunday night, Matt Weston was at it again as he had 3 hits with 6 RBI’s. Weston put the first POWER runs of the game on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning when he launched a 3 run home run over the right field wall. That was Weston’s third home run in as many games. The offensive outburst continued in the 4th inning when POWER third basemen Brian Steinmeyer matched Weston’s power by launching a 3 run home run of his own. The winning pitcher for the Power was Fred Caron who threw 2 1/3 innings of relief. This is the POWER’s 6th straight win, improving them to 8-2 on the season. “POWER Pull Off Miracle Rally; Win 14-13” 6/12/05 By Chris Ercoli The POWER had another record setting night coming back from a 10 run deficit as they win by a final of 14-13 in 12 innings. The POWER rally began in the bottom of the 6th when they put up 6 runs on the board led by a 2 run triple by POWER player of the night Matt Weston. The POWER continued to battle back as they scored three runs in the 9th to tie the game up. The rally in the 9th was lead by a 2 run HR by slugger Matt Weston and a costly error by Sean Iverson allowing Enrique Lechuga to score the tying run. In the bottom of the 12th the miraculous comeback was finished off by Saturday’s hero Matt Weston as he scored the game winning run on an RBI single to left field. The hit gave Weston exactly what he needed to finish the cycle. POWER record improves to 7-2. Next game is at 7:05 at home vs. the Denver Cougars as Palm Springs Stadium. The POWER offense was lead by solo blasts by sluggers Jacob Vasquez and Matt Weston. Vasquez’s shot came in the bottom of the 5th as he went deep over the right field wall. Weston’s came up in the bottom of the 6th and followed suit with a solo blast to right of his own. This is the 4th consecutive win for the Palm Springs POWER as they improve their record to 6-2. “Vasquez Leads Hit Parade as POWER Win 12-6” 6/11/05 By Chris Ercoli The POWER offense flexed its muscles as they had a team record 18 hits Saturday night on their way to a 12-6 victory over the Casa Grande Cotton Kings. The bats stayed hot all night as the POWER were lead big nights from both Jacob Vasquez and Raymond Ravago as both players chipped in with 4 hits a piece. The POWER are on a roll recently as they have won three straight games. “See the ball hit the ball don’t think too much,” said Desert Sun Player of the Game Jacob Vasquez. In the 8th inning, the Cotton Kings crept within 3 runs of the Power when Jason Rodriques hit a 3-run homer to make the score 8-5. However in the bottom of the 8th, the POWER put up 4 runs of their own on the board and stayed up for good. “We finally figured out how to play as a team. We are really starting to gel,” said Vasquez. With the victory the POWER improve to 5-2 on the season. Sunday afternoon will feature a double header vs. the Cotton Kings starting at 4pm and then continuing at 7:30pm at Palm Springs Stadium. 6/10/05 By Chris Ercoli Friday night’s victory was all about good pitching and solid defense as the POWER held the Cotton Kings to just 1 run and 7 hits on their way to a 4-1 win. POWER starter Fred Carron kicked the game off with a strong 6 innings of shutout ball. The POWER offense put runs on the board early, as they scored twice in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI triple by POWER 2nd baseman Troy Hanzawa followed by an RBI single by right fielder Tommy Sadler. Desert Sun Player of the Game Matt Foote scored twice as he contributed 2 hits and a stolen base. Foote also made the play of the game in the top of the 5th inning when he gunned down Cotton King 2nd basemen Chase Deleon on a strong throw to the plate. POWER relief pitcher Andy Beal picked up the save tonight as he threw perfect 9th inning to secure the win. With the win the POWER improved their record to 4-2 on the season. “POWER Put Out The Fire; Win 8-7″ 6/08/05 By Chris Ercoli There was no pitching duel in sight tonight at Palm Springs Stadium as the POWER(3-2) beat the Fire in an all out slugfest. The POWER came out of the gates quickly as they put up 7 runs in the first four innings lead by a three hit, two RBI effort from Desert Sun Player of the Game Jacob Vasquez. The POWER offense was stagnant, however, for the next four innings as the Fire chipped away at the POWER’s 7-5 lead to tie the game at 7-7 in the 6th. With the game still tied in the 9th, POWER sluggers Vasquez and Walton came into play again as they were both intentionally walked to load the bases for pinch hitter Matt Weston. Weston made the Fire pay on the fielder’s choice as they were unable to throw out POWER short stop Raymond Ravago on a close play at the plate, winning the game for the POWER. “POWER Continue To Heat Up; Win 7-2″ 6/05/05 By Chris Ercoli The Palm Springs POWER(2-1) continued to build on last nights win as the bats continued to heat up, leading the POWER to a 7-2 victory of the Sox. The POWER saw more clutch hitting tonight as they racked up six runs in the bottom of the third off Sox starter J.W. Westhead. The offensive outburst was started off by a RBI single to right by second basemen Aaron Porter. The next batter, Saturday night’s star Enrique Lichuga, came up and smacked a two-run double down the left field line. Along with a strong offensive showing the POWER also saw good pitching tonight from starter Guy McDowell as he threw a solid five innings giving up only four hits and two runs. Brian Letco came in for the POWER and preserved the win as he pitched a strong three innings in relief, giving up only one hit while striking out five. “We’re really starting to swing the bats well and the pitching was really good tonight. This team is really starting to come together well,” said Desert Sun player of the game and local star Rego Nieto. After an away game on Tuesday, the POWER return home on Wednesday evening for a 7:05 start vs. the Southern California Fire. “POWER Recharge Offense; Win 7-5″ 6/04/05 By Chris Ercoli After a sluggish opening night the POWER turned in their first win of the season behind some good timely hitting. After a strong performance by starter Robert Grace the POWER lead the game 4-1 after 5 innings. But in the 6th inning the bullpen struggled as the Sox put 4 runs up on the board lead with a 2 RBI double by Nick Dipaolo. Despite seeing their lead dwindle away the POWER came up in the bottom of the inning and manufactured 3 runs. After an RBI double by Raymond Ravago tied the game at 5-5, Enrique Lichuga put the POWER up for good on a 2 RBI single, giving them the 7-5 lead. POWER winning pitcher Eric Sheriadan then came in and threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts to preserve the victory. “The guys did a good job battling back. Lechuga had a big hit to win the game, and Sheridan kept us in it. It was a good night for us,” said POWER manager Estevan Valencia.
