The POWER swept the Casa Grande Cotton Kings out of Palm Springs Saturday night, blanking their Arizona-based rival 3-0 behind strong performances from Keaton Hernandez and Tyler Truitt.
Hernandez (4-0) tossed six scoreless innings, allowing only six hits while striking out a season-high eight. The Dallas Baptist University bound right-hander has not allowed a run in his last 18 innings.
Doug Finely kept the Cotton Kings’ bats quiet over the final three innings to earn his third save.
POWER pitching had to face more than four men in an inning only once. The offensive woes were nothing new for the Cotton Kings, who have scored only one run in their last four games against the POWER going back to 2012.
Outfielder Tyler Truitt supplied the offense for Palm Springs, driving in all three runs. The right-hander doubled in Anthony Torres in the first inning and drove home Brett Sullivan and Ryan Raslowsky with another double in the fifth. The Palm Springs High product reached base in all four of his plate appearances.
Daniel Cisneros (0-1) absorbed the loss for the Cotton Kings, allowing two runs on four hits in four innings.
