PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The POWER (40-4) moved one step closer to an unprecedented third-straight SCCBL championship on Tuesday, as they beat the Long Beach Legends, 10-2.

Mitch Bluman claimed the win for Palm Springs to improve to 3-0, lasting 6 2/3 innings and striking out four while not allowing an earned run. Mark Lukowski finished the game off for the POWER, throwing a perfect 2 1/3 innings to shut the door on the Legends (35-23).

Michael Massi was a difference-maker at the dish for the red-and-white, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Mark Lindsay also had a good day at the plate, picking up two RBIs in a 1-for-5 performance.

The POWER drew first blood in the contest with a four-run rally in the third inning. Reagan Fowler led off with a walk and moved to second on T.J. Bennett’s single. After Jake Howeth’s sacrifice bunt advanced each runner 90 feet, Palm Springs picked up four-consecutive RBI-singles to finish the inning with a 4-0 lead.

The red-and-white doubled their lead in the fifth to help put the game out of reach, picking up four runs on three hits. Massi provided the big blow in the frame, knocking a two-run single to left field to give him a team-best 34 RBIs. The POWER also tacked on a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings to complete the scoring.

These two clubs will meet for game two at Palm Springs Stadium on Wednesday as the POWER will go for their fifth league championship in club history. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans that cannot make it to the ballpark can catch all the action on pspbb.com.
