PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – With a 10-2 win, the San Diego Force took game one of a two-game series against the Palm Springs POWER.

POWER starter Angel Delgado wasn’t able to build off his strong start last time out, leaving the game after 3 1/3 innings. Delgado did manage to strike out five before Matt Valencia came on in relief.

A two-out single by Harry Shipley put the POWER up 1-0 in the second, but the Force stormed back. Scoring a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings, they carried a 3-1 lead to the sixth inning.

In the sixth, the Force were able to do more damage, scoring three runs to make it a 6-1 ballgame. The POWER got one back in the bottom of the inning, on a bases loaded walk by pinch-hitter Dillan Smith. It was a great chance to come back for the POWER, but they squandered the opportunity and left the bases loaded.

Another scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the eighth, when Dylan Garcia reached with a walk to start the inning and Ryan Razlowsky singled to advance him to second. Unfortunately, it didn’t come to anything.

The Force continued their hot hitting in the top of the ninth, putting up a four-spot on the scoreboard to increase the lead to eight. The Force ended the night with 17 hits.

Unable to mount a comeback, the POWER went down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning. Force starter Josh Makler set the tone for the visitors on the mound. He picked up the win, striking out five over 5 1/3 innings.

Game two is Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
