The 2010 July 4th Fireworks are back! The POWER Family would like to thank Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet for all of his hard work in coordinating the private fundraising to finance the extravagant July 4th show the West Valley citizens and POWER fans have grown accustomed to. We would also like to thank all of the donors whose contributions have made this possible.
The POWER Organization is still trying to raise almost $5,000 to pay for services needed to coordinate this year's event. If any fans, supporters, or residents would like to contribute, please call the POWER office at (760) 778-4487. Thanks!

June 16, 2010 - The Palm Springs POWER gave up a controversial home run on the first at-bat of the game. However, that would be the final run the visiting Trombly Thunder would score as the POWER came back with six unanswered runs for a 6-1 victory to move to 10-0 on the season. The win also brings the POWER within seven wins of their all-time record start of 17-0, which came in 2006.
Stellar pitching again came from the POWER pitching staff on Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium. POWER starting pitcher Brandon Kizer tossed four innings of 3-hit ball, allowing only the leadoff home run. The home run did not look as if it cleared the right field fence but was called a home run as part of the ground rules by the field umpire at Palm Springs Stadium. Thomas Taylor relieved Kizer in the fifth and tossed four innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit. Bryan Dalton came in and shut things down in the ninth to send the POWER fans home happy after right fielder Keenyn Walker ended the game on a tremendous putout.
The POWER received offense from their entire batting lineup as seven of their nine starters had either a run or an RBI. Marcus Romero added to his hot streak, getting the first RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly in the third that tied the game at 1-1. After the game, Romero gave credit to his coaches for his recent success at the plate when he said, “Once the coaches started showing us some things, everyone’s basic fundamentals improved. We all improved very quickly.”
The POWER were able to score twice on a wild pitch in the fourth as starting shortstop Corey Black was able to speed around from second and cross home on the play after catcher Brett Hambright scored from third.
After the game when asked about the play, Black said, “Coach Gamboa has been preaching about thinking a base ahead. I took a hard turn at third and saw the ball trickle away from the pitcher then made my decision.”
In his postgame comments, Coach Tom Gamboa mentioned that, “This is the best of our ten games that our guys ran the bases. When you do that all the time [think a base ahead], it becomes intimidating to the other team.”
June 15, 2010 - The Palm Springs POWER continued their success this season with another victory over the Trombly Thunder with a final score of 8-2. The win brings the POWER to 9-0 on the season and 6-0 in SCCBA play. The POWER also hold a 3-0 lead against the Thunder on the season.
The POWER took an early lead, plating two runs in the first and never looking back. The night started with a Chett Zeise single, followed by three consecutive
singles, with Ricky Gingras knocking in the first run of the night. The POWER continued their success loading the bases three times, albeit only scoring two runs in the inning.
POWER pitcher James Crockett improved to 2-0 on the season and appeared dominant throughout. The left-hander from Southern Utah University went five innings allowing only one hit to Trombly batter Taylor Richardson. Crockett also struck out a season high nine batters, walking none. Crockett now leads the team with 24 strikeouts, having only given up 8 hits in 17 innings on the season.
Pitching in relief of Crockett was right-hander Kesley Kondo who went 1 2/3 innings striking out two. Closing out the night was New Mexico left-hander Gabriel Aguilar, who came in for two scoreless innings striking out one.
The POWER return to action tomorrow night, hosting the Trombly Thunder in game two of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening at 6 p.m. Wednesday's game is sponsored by the Desert Valley Star, so make sure to come out and support one of the Valley's best weekly publications.
Tuesday was also the start of the Palm Springs POWER youth camp, which will continue Wednesday and through Thursday. Camp begins at 8 a.m., and young ball players are encouraged to come out, as spots are still open.
The POWER would like to extend a special thank-you to
