Earlier today, James Simmons was drafted in the 1st round of the 2007 MLB draft with the 26th overall pick by the Oakland A’s. James, who just finished his junior year at the University of California Riverside , was the number one starting pitcher for the POWER in 2005. He posted a 2.75 ERA in 39.1 innings and while striking out 47.  Simmons still holds the POWER record with the best strikeout to walk ratio in a season of 9.4 strikeouts to one walk.
