June 11, 2009, Palm Springs, CA – Three former POWER players along with four current players were selected in the Major League Baseball draft on June 9th, 10th, and 11th.

Ryan Wheeler was the earliest POWER player taken when the Arizona Diamondbacks drafted him in the fifth round. Wheeler played in 2007 for the POWER. His brother, Jason, is currently a starting pitcher for the POWER this season.

Other former players taken in the draft were Kent Walton in the 23rd round to the Oakland Athletics, and Tyler Topp who was taken in the 35th by the Florida Marlins. Walton played in 2006 and 2007, while Topp was the ace pitcher last summer for the POWER.

Current POWER players that were chosen in the draft are RHP Erick Carrillo in the 19th round to the Marlins, infielder Tyler Saladino in the 36th to the Houston Astros, outfielder Brian Heere in the 48th to the Boston Red Sox, and infielder/catcher Brett Hambright was a 38th round selection to the Colorado Rockies.

The POWER have had several players drafted over their six year span. It is uncertain which players, past or present, will sign with their respective organizations but the POWER would like to congratulate the seven players recently taken in the 2009 MLB draft and wish them continued success throughout their baseball careers.
