PALM SPRINGS, Calif. –Strong defense and timely hitting helped the Palm Springs POWER defeat the Newport Beach Storm 11-3 inside Palm Springs Stadium on Tuesday night.
Four POWER (20-5 overall) players had multi-hit games, led by P.J. Jimenez who went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs. Other players that collected two hits each, were Jay Ponciano, Brett Hambright, and Tyler Saladino. The POWER shutout the Orange County Pioneers in the two previous games and were on a scoreless streak of 27 consecutive innings before allowing three runs in the ninth inning against the Storm.
After a hitless first inning, Hambright, a recent signee of the University of Oregon, led off the second, slapping a pitch from Mark Marfoglia into right-center field for a double. Jimenez followed the double with a bunt single that scored Hambright to take a 1-0 lead.
